GUESS WHAT THIS IS CALLED:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pound jumbo shrimp, shelled and deveined
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup dry white vermouth
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped flat-leaf parsley leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated lemon zest

Directions

Put the shrimp on a large pie pan or plate and pat them completely dry with a paper towel. Arrange the shrimp so they lay flat and are evenly spaced.

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Add the butter to the skillet. When the foaming subsides, raise the heat to high, and invert the plate of shrimp over the pan so the shrimp fall into the pan all at once. Cook the shrimp, without moving them, for 1 minute. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute. Turn the shrimp over and cook for 2 minutes more. Transfer the shrimp to a bowl.

Return the skillet to the heat and pour in the vermouth and lemon juice. Boil the liquid until slightly thickened, about 30 seconds. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Stir the zest and parsley into the sauce. Pour the sauce over the shrimp, season with salt and pepper to taste and toss to combine.

Divide the shrimp among 4 plates or arrange on a platter and serve.

Well, some of you know exactly what this is and it goes right along with the National Holiday for today:  National Shrimp Scampi Day!

As for me, I’m going on a scouting expedition looking for turkeys along the highways and byways of Utahs Northern end.  Will also cross the border into Idaho a little.

Enjoy your day!

I got to looking into the national holidays schedule and found that tomorrows day might just need some head up.  So, for those of you reading this, you might want to put that drink down and head for the store.

In England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and a few others: “Ellow Mate”!  “Ellow”!  “Wat you doin taday”?  “Nutin I spoze, wy”? “Wy don’t you an me head on down ta the pub fer a col one”?  “Ok”.  “Cheerie Oh Mate”!  “Cheerie Oh”!

Tomorrow is “National Kiss your Mate” day!  Beings as it is a Saturday, and you probably don’t have to go to work, it might lead up to something else.  So, I’m just saying, you might want to go get whatever you might need just in case.

As for me, I kiss my mate every day.  Maybe even several times each day.  There isn’t any reason not to.  You know, when she decides to go out and weed the garden and I’m doing whatever I’m doing, we are going to be apart.  Who knows what could happen to either one of us.  So, kiss each other and off we go!  Of course when we get back together there is always the welcome back kiss.  It’s sort of a have to do thing.  It makes for a full circle of things and I’m all about full circles.

Full Circles.  How can you have a circle unless it is a full one?  You will read in some of my stories about circles crossing…those are always good times.  Just my weird thinking I guess.

At any rate…National Kiss your Mate Day starts at midnight….Do you know where your kids are?

Today is National Tell a Story Day!  What a treat!  Now if I could only think of one to tell.

There was the time on a muzz hunt when No Grimace went outside the tin tipi and pressed his face up against the window…that was funny!

Then the muzz hunt when we had taken the two wheel drive truck of Trackers to the top of the mountain when the ground was still frozen and had to bring it back down when the ground was thawed out….every “milestone” down off the mountain called for another horn off the grimace bottle….that was funny (sort of)!

Then what about the time we were out with No Grimaces Subaru Brat and had to hold up the down hill side as we traversed a steep incline from point A to point B…that was dangerous, but still funny!

How about the same trip when it was so cold our farts froze into little blue balls and we tossed them up inside the cab where Wapiti and No Grimace we enjoying the warmth of the heater….THAT was funny!

Oh Ya, the one where we ambushed Edjukateer and No Grimace with a couple of cans of beer left in the road….THAT WAS WAY FUNNY!!!!

Can you think of any?

I ran across this site last night and think that just maybe one of you might be interested in learning a little about batteries.  We are talking batteries for cars, rv’s, boats etc.

I’m not very adept when it comes to batteries and that is why I was looking on the web for info.  This is a pretty good site for beginners.

I can’t resist sharing this with you.  I am assuming it to be true but I did not investigate it.  It is worth listening to even if it’s phoney.

Got a really super deal on a Mossberg Super Bantam 500  youth model shotgun in 20 ga today.  Maybe Conner will want to use it to take down his turkey this year.  That will be his decision.

Going out to pattern that one and my old Mossberg bolt action 20 that was the first shotgun I ever bought.  I love that old gun.  Crank down the choke and let a load of #6’s head for a turkey!

The general turkey hunt for Utah begins next Monday and I sure hope I find myself sitting against a tree just as it is beginning to get light!

Here turkey, turkey, turkey…..come to papa!

I started to read about Willards Old cemetery and how the flood of 1923 washed several of the graves out and deposited the remains to the West.  The story has it that the men of town drove their “buckboards” and loaded up the remains and then they dug one large hole at the cemetery and put all the remains in and covered them up.

It was done because there was no way of knowing who’s bones were who’s.

But that’s not the reason for this posting.  I got to thinking about the word “buckboard”.  What does it mean?

My first thought was that the name derived because the men would go off hunting and come back with deer laying in the back of the wagon.  Sort of like we do today, only not on top of the wagon, but in the back of it.  So the boards of the wagon had bucks laying on them and thus the name. Buck boards.

We have all seen the cowboy shows and the guys are driving into and out of town with buckboard wagons full of sacks of whatever and of course the run away ones with the good looking chick trying to save her own life.

According to wikipedia, a buckboard wagon is truly a design made in America.  Out of necessity, out fore fathers came up with the idea and put it all together.  Probably without a seat and so they just knelt down and drove the horse and the load that way.  But then somewhere along the way, the driver got kicked in the head by the horse and that wasn’t a pretty sight.  So they added a slanted board in front of the driver.  The slanted board was canted toward the horse and anchored with heavy metal brackets.

When they added seats to these wagons, that canted board became a place the driver and passengers could put their feet while they traveled.  A very nice second use for the “buck board”.

You see, that canted board was called the “buck board” by the makers in order that the horses hind feet could not reach the drivers head in case it “bucked”.

There you have it…more knowledge for your pea brain.

Today looks like MY day!  WOOPPEEEEE!!!  It’s National Read Me Day!  So this site should get a lot of readers!  For those of you who have come to this site for the first or second or third or fourth or fifth time and have not read anything but the first post (this one), you have a treat ahead of you.  Look to your right…see all those categories?  Click on one of them…any one…and then begin to read all the “insightful”  information I have put there just for YOU!

My beginnings are my dumb stories I wrote for the APFO Aerial Observer.  Some good stories mostly about how my friends got their mountain man names.  Then there are the daily postings of last seasons trapping.  And it goes on and on!  Check each category out and have a great time reading.

It’s National Read Me Day!  Enjoy!  Oh, and if the boss catches you reading this, tell him/her what the websites address is and you will catch them checking it out in about 5 minutes.

After yesterdays wonderful weather and all the work that got done outside we all have sore backs and tired tools.  So it is a good thing todays National whatever day is one in which we can sit back and relax with.  National Jelly Bean day!  AHHHH!  Nothing much better than a jelly bean slowly melting away in your mouth right?  Unless of course you like sour things like Pickled Pigs Feet and the thought of a pig knuckle tucked under your tooth.

Enjoy another fine day in the Rockies folks!  High expected near 80 today and it would be a great day for a BBQ with friends and family.  Don’t over do it with the jelly beans however.  Some have to go to work tomorrow!
