Doing something different today…going with Mitch to the Business and New Products show in SLC.  Taking Tracks for the first time.  It should be a good day!

Went to the big city and walked through an amazing display of stuff for sale.  Biking stuff, hiking stuff, walking stuff, running stuff, sleeping stuff, stuffing stuff, gloves, hats, colorful socks, snowboards, kids sliding things, backpacks, water bottles, quick energy foods and candies, shoes, coats, scarves, knives, ice picks and climbing equipment, head lights, instant heat hand warmer thingys, surfing boards (why in SLC?), tents, a small camp trailer that could be pulled by a compact car, cold weather suits, ultra high altitude air masks, goggles, sun glasses, skin tight (this is all you need to wear) all weather clothing, keep your stuff dry, bags, cases and spray on stuff, and there was more, and more, and more, and more.

So, here we are wandering around seeing all this stuff and there is way too much stuff to be able to see all the stuff there is there, mostly because it is all covered up with more stuff that they wanted you to see.  When suddenly this very shapely woman wearing an all black skin tight whatever and hands me and Mitch each a card inviting us to an all you can drink beer happening at their booth beginning at 3:30 this afternoon…like right now…as I am typing this.  Well, you have probably figured out that Mitch got me out of town before that happening.

We took the Front Runner down and of course the trax while in town and it was a great event for a Bears Butt…just sort of wish we could have had a free beer or two and hung out with….well…that one woman.  Oh well, it’s just as well I’m home right now.

It was in todays Ogden Standard Examiner, that the best equipment at the show was something Mitch and I laughed about.  An emergency inflatable air bag that deployed from a backpack in case you were caught in an avalanche…the sign said, “to assist you in not being completely buried”….

We felt, that only a crazy person would be in a position to get caught in an avalanche in the first place.

Congratulations to that company!

Beings as I am getting up in my years, I might want to start thinking about how I am going to get out onto the ice to do my ice fishing.  Walking long distances is getting quite difficult even at my young age.  Most of the time the ice is too thin for taking an atv out and so I started looking into another option.  Maybe this one would do the trick:

People from 27 different countries have hit this site!  Most have not stayed long, probably because they could not understand English, but still…were they looking for something more exciting?  What could be more exciting than Bears Butt’s ramblings?  I say..nothing!

Today, Sher and I are taking a little road trip this morning and then coming back to enjoy an afternoon of fun filled computer updating.  When was the last time you “updated” with your spouse?

Ham and beans has to be about the simplest recipe on earth and the end result is a most delicious meal!  MMMMMMM

Borrow some baby lima beans, black eyed peas, pinto beans, big lima beans, red beans or Anasazi beans from your neighbor.  Or go buy some.  Sort through the bag and take out all the rocks and bad stuff you sometimes find in with the beans.  Put them in a big bowl and cover them with water to soak over night.  Set them aside until tomorrow.

Tomorrow:

Get hold of some ham.  Ham with bone is good.  Ham with ham is good.  You have to have a lot of meat for this to be extra good.  But, if times are tough and you can only get a little ham, so be it, it will still be yummy.  Ham fat is good too if that is all you can get and most folks don’t like ham fat…I do like it.

So, now you have some ham.  Get a couple of yellow onions.  Sometimes you can find them along side the road.  They are the best, cuz they are free.  Even if you have to buy them you are only into the cost about a buck.

Cut up the ham into pieces about half the size of the inside of a eating spoon.  Cuz that is what you will be eating this stuff with later on.  Bigger pieces are too much for the spoon to gather up.  Toss the chunks into a large pot.

Dice up the two onions, spoon size pieces as well and toss them into the pot on top of the ham.

Now pour water in on top of all of that maybe even to the mid level of the pot.

Boil it up!  Then lower the temp and let it still boil but slowly.  Let it cook for a couple of hours with a lid on the pot.  Don’t it smell yummy?

For us old folks with problems caused by salt, you don’t have to put any salt in this if you don’t want to.  Just add in some black pepper to your taste.

OK, now you have the ham and onions all cooked up good.  If you have tossed in a ham bone, git it out and strip all the meat off of it.  Let the bone cool and give it to your dog.  But whatever you do with the bone, don’t put it back into the pot.  If you have used ham hocks, you will have several bones to get out, fish around until you think they are all out.  If you leave one, there will be one of your special guests that will get it in their mouth and even though they won’t say anything to you, they will think “What a dummy.  They don’t even know how to cook”.

Now dump off the water from the beans and put them in the pot with the ham and onions.  Make sure the water level is above the beans and commence to boil it some more.  Depending on the beans you got, it might take anywhere from an hour to maybe even three hours to cook the beans until they are tender and there is a soupy goo in the pot.  MMMMMM  Let this cook down some with the lid off and you will have the best ham and bean soup you ever tasted.

Let your guests (and you) doctor it up with ketchup, salt, pepper, hot sauce or whatever they want.  You can serve it plain in a bowl or put it over some home made corn bread or plain bread.  Saltine crackers are good with it poured over too.  Maybe even cold pizza would be good with it poured over.  I’ll bet it would be.

Hey!  I just looked at some stats, whatever that means.  Yesterday I heard that statistics are things that get thrown out at people and nobody can argue that they are right or wrong and that only people who use them against or for something do it because they are in a corner and can’t logically get themselves out of.

That actually makes some sense.  But in this case it’s MY website!  HEY YOU!

READER!  YA!  YOU!!!!  if you have read this far…keep digging deeper into this blog site.  There is something here for YOU!

Do you like to tie knots?  There is a great website mentioned on here about that subject!  Do you like to read hunting stories?  Tons of those on here!

What about fishing?  YA…got you hooked there too.  Just look around!

Mountain man stories!  A really great set of those on here!  And don’t forget to check out the mountain man lingo category.

POEMS?  Poems are not for guys!  But…don’t underestimate a poem about “Pickled Pigs Feet!”  It’s probably the ONLY one ever to be written and it was by ME!  Read it.

Thanks for coming on this site and visiting!  I hope you put it into your favorites and visit often!  I wish I could see your face.

Later Dude or Dudeette!

It’s going to be another wonderful day on the hard deck.  Fishing with Edjukateer and the Weasel.  Going to meet “the other guy” on the deck as well.  And of course it is going to be a day at Rockport trying to land one of the coveted tagged finned bad boys.  A report will follow later today.

Report: (the following day)

I could not report the days events last night..We had a date night…

Fishing was fun, as usual, I only caught 2 and lost about 14 quarters to the Weasel, Edjukateer and “the other guy”.  My bait just was not what they wanted, even though it was the same bait, out of the same jar as the others were using…go figure!  It was a great day none the less.

A beautiful sunrise:

Nice Solid ice cap.  You can tell that by the way the shoreline looks.  The expanding ice pushes everything else up and away from the center of the lake.

It was a beautiful sunny, cloudless sky, warm temps for the time of year and good company.  Who could ask for more?

Also, we got to try out the latest of inventions (copied but never duplicated, or course)…I call it the Butts  “lazy lipper” and it has a long way to go!  I’m hoping others who know about it will modify it and make it a lipper that works every time!

Here is a short video on how this contraption works.  The spokesperson works for an unknown company out of state, so don’t think he is someone you might know.

ExplainingTheLazyLipper

And of course, “the contest”,  well it’s not exactly a “contest”, they call it a “challenge”….catch a tagged trout and win a prize associated with the number on the tag and you could win one of these lovely prizes!  Good luck to all.

All of them are great prizes!  Thank to all the sponsors!

Until next time!  Enjoy!  Get outside and enjoy this sunny winter of ours.

Do you know how to tell if you’re staying in a redneck hotel?

When you call the front desk saying I’ve got a leak in the sink and the front desk person says go ahead.
